"For Reasons Unexplained" is a zine exploring the American car culture that flourished after World War II. It’s a story about controversial roadside novelty architecture in the form of huge figures that are an integral part of the road landscape. The content also concerns road cinema - a product of motorized America. This film genre was a reflection of the rebellion against conservative social norms. The giant roadside figures, nowadays, are the epitome of postmodern rebellion against conventional aesthetics.
The project is the result of the cooperation of Oliwia Antosik, Piotr Pędzich and Natalia Sobczak. The zine was printed by combining two techniques: digital printing and screen printing. The photos come from the collection of the Library of Congress. The use of archival resources was the starting point for the project.
